xB Index — Championship Process Quality Rankings

The xB Index is a composite process-quality score built from three weighted tiers of on-ball and off-ball metrics. Tier 1 (shot creation and suppression) carries 50% of the weight; Tier 2 (build-up and ball-progression) 30%; Tier 3 (set-piece and pressing context) 20%. Each metric is percentile-ranked against the 24-club Championship population and direction-corrected, so a higher xB Index always indicates stronger underlying process regardless of metric polarity.

The index deliberately excludes outcomes: goals, points, wins and losses are not inputs. Conversion rates and goalkeeper save percentages are similarly excluded. The Financial Efficiency column compares a club's xB process rank to its wage-bill rank — a positive gap means the club is outperforming its budget allocation on process quality. It is not a prediction of future results.
